First attempt

Blurry image of v chain 1st attempt
So after continuing to play with my thread I did manage to create  a single chain. Though I am learning the importance of not tightening the weave together. After looking at my thread width I realized that I am working with a thread size 2 and a 6/6-4.25 mm hook.  multiple suggestions have been brought to me to try a different yarn size as well as a larger hook. I still think that it has been good to get the basic holding of the needle and thread down.. Not to mention it is giving me wicked ideas for jewelry!

It starts....

Hello!
Today I am starting a blog to record my fun filled adventures as I learn to crochet.  For Christmas I received a how to book and three large spools of thread. I have never done anything like this before so far after struggling to hold the needle correctly while looping thread I have managed to make a V chain

For anyone looking at this who does crochet please note: I am an absolute beginner.  So apologies if I am causing hair pulling mistakes that leave you twitching while saying, "GAH!! YOU DO NOT DO IT THAT WAY!!!" My posts are really to see how I grow and improve over time. Please feel free to comment with suggestions.

BACK STORY:
Grandmama's hand made blanket
While I have been a somewhat crafty person my life I never have received formal training in the art of crochet. My grandmother was quite the artist and created several large blankets in her time. One of which I currently have.  (As seen on the right.) Hopefully with practice I can do something remotely like this.
